A high number of our graduates succeed as practising artists and are high visible in the art community. Others work at independent, and commercial levels. Our alumni have successful careers in a vast array of allied arts professions, including arts education, curatorship and administration in museums, galleries, community arts programs, art and design consultancies, and conservation organisations.

Minimum entrance requirements

Equivalent Australian Year 12

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English and a minimum ATAR of 70.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

  • A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL

Special application requirements

Application Kit: Applicants must download a kit online (www.artdes.monash.edu.au/study/apply/kit.html) by 28 September. Applicants can access the kit at Open Day. Telephone requests will not be accepted. Applicants must complete and submit the kit by 8 October.

Interview and folio presentation: Details will be sent to applicants by 12 November. Applicants must attend in November. See Monash University information pages for details. Advisory letters will be sent to applicants by 17 December.

Each application kit is assessed to decide whether an interview is required. The final ranking is based on the interview score, minimum ATAR and GPA (if applicable).
