Why study Graduate Diploma in Law?

The Graduate Diploma in Law offers students the flexibility to choose from a broad range of units, enabling you to individually tailor your course to suit your interests and professional needs. This program offers students a great deal of choice as students can choose from the full range of Monash Law's postgraduate program, investigating contemporary legal issues from both international and local perspectives. This degree will enable you to acquire further legal expertise, adding value in the workplace as well as providing the opportunity to hone your legal knowledge and skills and build on your existing experience. While this course normally comprises eight coursework units, applicants holding an undergraduate degree may be given credit for up to four units for recognised work experience or prior learning.

Minimum entrance requirements

A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification, with a minimum credit average; or

A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification and at least one year of relevant work experience; or

An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline and at least one year of relevant work experience in the area of specialisation.

Applicants who do not hold an undergraduate degree may be admitted if they have relevant qualifications and work experience considered an equivalent or satisfactory substitute and that constitutes suitable preparation for the proposed course of study.

Relevant work experience: To adequately demonstrate your experience, please ensure that you have outlined your job title, the organisation name and department and the type, the number of employees, the duration of your tenure and the type (e.g. full time, part-time, casual), a description of the tasks for which you were responsible, and how they relate to the area of specialisation in which you are interested. You are required to submit one original employment reference which supports your CV (if you were self-employed, you should submit original references from two clients).You should also provide a URL of your organisation

English requirements for international students

Overall IELTS of 7.0; with Reading 6.5, Listening 6.5, Writing 6.5 and Speaking 6.5

Paper-based TOEFL 600 (TWE of 4.5); or Internet-based TOEFL Overall 100 (with Writing 24+, and no other section lower than 20).

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
