Bachelor of Commerce / Bachelor of Education for 2009

Course overview

Designed to prepare students for combination careers as business professionals and secondary teachers, graduates qualify as accountants or economists and as secondary teachers in commerce fields. The education studies provide an in-depth knowledge of the theoretical foundations of education, curriculum studies and teaching practice. Students gain an understanding of the nature of education, classroom teaching and practice in schools (including supervised teaching placements) and the relationship between education and society. Core business units in accounting, management, marketing and business law provide students with the framework and skills needed for a career in business. Students complete a major (eight unit) and minor (four unit) sequence in commerce consisting of one of the following combinations: economics and accounting, accounting and economics, economics and management or management and economics. Depending on the units chosen, students may also be able to satisfy the requirements of professional associations.

The double degree Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Education requires the successful completion of units totalling 204 credit points. The study equivalent to achieve 204 credit points would normally be 4.25 years of full time study; however this course has been structured to allow completion in just 4 years full-time or 8 years part-time. This is made possible by the incorporation of a 12 credit point study overload in the final year of the course.
