Entry requirements

Minimum entrance requirements for non-school-leavers

TAFE

Applicants with a science-based diploma qualification who achieve a 70% average in physics and mathematics will be considered.

University

Applicants are required to demonstrate their preparedness and aptitude for study by taking two single units, preferably in areas that correspond to the prerequisite studies. Applicants require at least a distinction average (70%) in these studies and need to have completed them within seven years of application.

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 35 in English (ESL) or 30 in any other English, and a study score of at least 25 in physics and in mathematical methods (either) or specialist mathematics.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

• A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL, and
• A score of at least 4 in mathematics SL or 3 in mathematics HL or 4 in further mathematics SL, and
• A score of at least 4 in physics SL or 3 in physics HL.

English requirements for international students

IELTS 7.0 with individual band scores required at 7.0 for Reading, 7.0 for Listening, 7.0 for Writing and 7.0 for Speaking; TOEFL 600 with a TWE score of at least 4.5; Computer-based TOEFL, a minimum score of 250 with an ER of at least 5.0; or an internet-based TOEFL, an overall score of 100 with at least 24 in the written section, and no section lower than 20.
