Minimum entrance requirements for non-school-leavers

TAFE

A minimum of Certificate IV with at least a distinction (70%) average is required to be considered for admission. The Diploma in Welfare or Diploma in Community Development is recommended. Substantial credit (up to 72 points) can be awarded for diplomas accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association.

The following TAFE and Advance TAFE qualifications have been approved for admission with 8 units (48 points) credit:

  • Diploma of Community Services Work
  • Diploma of Community Services (Alcohol, other drugs and mental health)
  • Diploma of Disability

SINGLE UNIVERSITY UNITS

Applicants will be considered for admission with two single units completed at a credit (60%) average. Additional units (above the minimum of two) will enhance a student's application, particularly if they relate to the arts or social sciences. Units in psychology and sociology are especially recommended. Credit for any other previous studies will only be granted from those completed no more than 10 years prior to admission, however qualifications gained more than 10 years prior can be used for admission. VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

  • A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL.

English requirements for international students

IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking; or TOEFL 580 with a TWE of 4.5; or a computer-based TOEFL 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) of 5; or an Internet-based TOEFL score of 90 with 22 in Writing and no section lower than 20

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.
