Through the study of communications, students learn to describe and analyse the media in many different ways.
Students take a major in communications, a minor in humanities and a specialisation sequence. Minors can be chosen from Australian Indigenous studies, Australian studies, behavioural studies, community studies, history-politics, Indonesian, psychology (which must be studied by off-campus learning) and sociology. Specialisations include journalism, marketing, management, writing and business computing.
Graduates work in fields such as journalism, publishing, editing, writing, electronic media, public relations, corporate communications, marketing and advertising.

Recommended studies include courses that have high humanities content, eg professional writing and editing, liberal arts, media and communications, justice studies, marketing and public relations.
Some advanced standing may be granted for TAFE studies.

Applicants will be considered for admission with two single units completed at a credit average. Additional units (above the minimum of two) will enhance a student's application. Students are encouraged to consider units that relate to the arts or social sciences. Credit for any other previous studies will only be granted from those completed no more than 10 years prior to admission, however qualifications gained more than 10 years prior can be used for admission.
Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
