Entry requirements

International entry requirements

Equivalent Australian Year 12. Please note English proficiency requirements must be met. Audition and Interview: Students intending to specialise in composition are required to submit up to three compositions that show the range and proficiency of their work, accompanied by a declaration that they are entirely their own work. Students intending to specialise in performance should prepare for audition not more than three pieces of music drawn from a varied repertoire, for example a work from the classical period, a work from the Romantic period, and another written in the 20th century. Non-pianists must provide their own accompanists. If students cannot attend an audition in person, video taped auditions are acceptable. A tape of the three pieces of original composition is recommended.

Minimum entrance requirements for non-school-leavers

TAFE

A minimum of Certificate IV with at least a distinction average is required to be considered for admission.

Recommended studies include music, drama, humanities or social sciences.

Some advanced standing may be granted for TAFE studies.

University

Applicants will be considered for admission with two single units completed at a credit average. Additional units (above the minimum of two) will enhance a student's application. Students are encouraged to consider units that relate to music, performing arts, humanities or social sciences. Advanced standing may be granted for these units.

Credit for any other previous studies will only be granted from those completed no more than 10 years prior to admission, however qualifications gained more than 10 years prior can be used for admission.

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. Normally a standard of at least Grade 7 Australian Music Education Board or Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (Performance), or Trinity College London or equivalent is also required.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

English at a minimum of grade four at standard level. Normally a standard of at least Grade 7 (Grade 5 for voice) Austrlaian Music Education Board or Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (Performance), or Trinity College London or equivalent.

English requirements for international students

IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 6.5 in Reading and Listening and 6.0 in Writing and Speaking; or TOEFL 580 with a TWE of 4.5; or a computer-based TOEFL 237 with an Essay Rating (ER) of 5; or an Internet-based TOEFL score of 90 with 22 in Writing and no section lower than 20
