Our nursing degree creates local, national and international opportunities in a range of health service areas, such as acute hospital care, mental health, rehabilitation, aged care, community-based care and rural and remote services.
It also provides an excellent foundation for further education and practice in specialist areas of acute medical/surgical nursing, emergency nursing, intensive care, midwifery, paediatrics, peri-operative, mental health, palliative care, oncology, wound care and other areas.
You may also find opportunities in education, management and research.
Graduates are eligible to become registered nurses with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
TAFE
Selection of applicants will be based on academic results. Students who successfully complete a TAFE Certificate IV in Health (Nursing) may apply for credit for up to 24 credit points in the first year of the course. Students who have successfully completed a TAFE Diploma of Nursing may apply for credit for up to 48 credit points in the course, potentially enabling them to complete the degree in two years. All credit applications will be individually assessed, based on academic results. Unscored or ungraded TAFE qualifications will not be considered for entry.
University
Students who have completed or commenced other university courses may also be considered for credit. All credit applications are individually assessed.
Applicants may undertake two single units from the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery to meet minimum entry requirements, however additional units may enhance their chances of selection. There are no compulsory units, however science units from the Bachelor of Nursing are recommended. Applicants undertaking single units may apply for credit on admission. Alternatively, applicants may undertake units through Open University Australia.
Bridging courses
A one-year, full-time Diploma of Tertiary Studies is offered through the Monash University, Peninsula Campus. Applicants seeking entry via this pathway must demonstrate successful completion of all units and minimum of a credit average over the course.
Units 1 and 2- two units (any study combination) from general mathematics or mathematical methods (CAS), or Units 3 and 4-mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4-a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
Gaining the required result in one of the following tests of English language:
a minimum overall IELTS test score of at least 6.5 with individual band scores required at 6.5 for Reading, 6.5 for Listening, 6.0 for Writing and 6.0 for Speaking.
a TOEFL minimum test score of either;
in the written TOEFL, 580 with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5; or
in the internet-based TOEFL, an overall score of at least 90 with at least 22 in the written section and no less than 20 in any other section.
