Course overview
The course prepares nurses who are committed to the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health, and the prevention of disease. Areas of study include legal and ethical issues, medical-surgical nursing, high acuity care, health promotion, social sciences, multicultural issues, anatomy, physiology, microbiology and pharmacology, plus other related areas. Clinical placements, which make up about 50 per cent of the course requirements, are run throughout each year at teaching hospitals. They may be undertaken in metropolitan, rural, remote or regional locations.

Career outlook
Graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as Division 1 nurses with the Nurses Board of Victoria, or its equivalent. Graduates may work in a variety of settings including public or private hospitals, community health centres, mental health care, home-based nursing, extended care and rehabilitation. Further study could lead to specialisations in areas such as intensive care, midwifery, paediatrics, psychiatric nursing, community health, palliative care or nursing informatics.
