Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research Methods for 2010

Course overview

This course equips clinicians and public health professionals with skills in clinical research methodology associated with epidemiology. Students gain a detailed understanding of epidemiology and biostatistics to a level that enables critical and detailed appraisal of epidemiological literature, and the conduct of projects requiring epidemiological and biostatistical expertise. The course consists of six core units and two electives covering introductory epidemiology, introductory biostatistics, clinical trials, clinical measurement, chronic diseases: epidemiology & prevention, research methods, ethics, good research practice & practical research skills, clinical epidemiology, infectious diseases, meta analysis and systematic reviews, injury epidemiology and prevention. This course articulates with the Master of Clinical Epidemiology and can lead to the Master of Public Health.

Career outlook

Graduates of this program may gain further employment or promotion as physicians, surgeons, clinicians, physiotherapists, working within general practice settings, maternal and child health settings, in the areas of nutrition, infection control, and/or public health.

International subject prerequisites

Either a medical degree, honours degree or postgraduate diploma in a relevant discipline with an average of credit or above or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university with relevant professional experience in public health. Applicants are also required to have at least two years relevant professional experience in a health-related field.

English requirements for international students

IELTS 7.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0; TOEFL 600 with a TWE of 5; or a computer-based TOEFL 250 with an Essay Rating (ER) of 5
