Why study Bachelor of Business (Marketing)?

Marketing is about providing value to organisations and consumers with creativity, innovation, knowledge and leadership. This program will develop your understanding of fundamental marketing principles, while also giving you a strong business base. You will also get world-class training in researching, planning and delivering a marketing strategy. Four of our marketing students won the Microsoft Protege 2011 grand final with their integrated marketing communications strategy for the Windows Phone 7.

Our degree offers core units that introduce you to the key principles of business, including marketing, accounting, management and economics. You will complete a major in marketing, as well as eight open electives in Faculty of Business and Economics programs, or other faculty disciplines. It is possible to form a second major from your open electives.

This course consists of six core business units, a major in marketing, and eight open electives. It is possible to form a second major from your open electives.

Minimum entrance requirements

Minimum entrance requirements for non-school-leavers

All applicants should note that the english and mathematics prerequisites for the courses must be satisfied.

TAFE Completed qualifications at Certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma level are required. Students should normally achieve at least a 75% to 80% average to be considered for admission. Preference will be given to students whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Programs that involve competency-based assessment without grades or marks will not meet the admission requirements. Note that the english and mathematics prerequisites for courses must be satisfied.

UNIVERSITY Applicants require a minimum of two units, although in normal circumstances this minimum alone is unlikely to be sufficient. Preference will be give to applicants whose prior studies are related to the course in which they are seeking admission. Students should normally achieve at least a 60% (credit) average to be considered for admission, although students who only complete the minimum number of units (two) may require higher grades.

MATHEMATICS PREREQUISITE Applicants are required to have successfully completed VCE units 3 and 4, with a study score of at least 25 in mathematics (any), or their interstate/overseas equivalents, for admission to these courses.

VCE prerequisites

Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in English other than EAL; and a study score of at least 25 in any Mathematics.

International Baccalaureate subject prerequisites

  • A score of at least 4 in English SL or 3 in English HL or 5 in English B SL or 4 in English B HL, and
  • A score of at least 4 in mathematics SL or 4 in further mathematics SL or 4 in mathematical studies SL or 3 in mathematics HL.

Enrolment obligation

International students enrolling in a CRICOS-registered course can study no more than 25% of their course by distance and/or online learning. Students cannot enrol exclusively in distance and/or online learning study in any compulsory study period. See standard 9.4 of The National Code 2007.

Identifying and satisfying customer needs profitably form the basis of marketing. It includes creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging goods and services that have value to potential customers and, often, building strong relationships between an organisation and its customers. It can include market research, product development and communication strategies as well as product delivery logistics.

    Business graduates have a huge range of career opportunities, and a marketing major further improves these options. Our graduates work all over the world. They work in marketing, finance, management, advertising and communications. They work for the government, corporations and themselves. The range of career options depends on the subjects chosen but, given we offer open electives and a specialisation in marketing, graduates will be able to explore several career paths.

    Examples of roles that graduates can pursue include marketing consultant in a large corporation, business analyst in a bank or consulting firm, communications officer in a state or federal government department, market researcher for a media company, entrepreneur running their own business, or e-commerce expert for an online marketplace.
