The degree aims to provide students with a grounding across the major disciplines of science as well as in-depth training in at least one specialised area.
Students complete at least one major sequence and at least one minor sequence in two different specialised areas of study. In addition to the major sequences, students study core and interdisciplinary units. The major and minor sequences available at the different campus vary.
The science areas of study available at the Clayton campus in first year are astronomy, atmospheric science, biology, chemistry, computer science, geoscience, geography, mathematics, physics, psychology and statistics. Second and third year areas of study are presented in four broad categories:
Earth sciences; Life sciences; Mathematical and computational sciences; and Physical sciences. See the Undergraduate Handbook [http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/aos/sci-ug-study-clayton-intro.html} webpage for details of Science areas of study and sequences available at Clayton.
The areas of study available at Gippsland campus or by off-campus learning are applied biochemistry, applied microbiology, applied chemistry, applied statistics (minor only), computing, human physiology (minor only), mathematical sciences, resource and environmental management, and psychology.See the Undergraduate Handbook [http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/aos/sci-ug-study-gipplsand-intro.html} webpage for details of Science areas of study and sequences available at Gippsland. The areas of study available at the Sunway campus are Biotechnolgoy, Medical bioscience, Tropical biology. See the Undergraduate Handbook [http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/aos/sci-ug-study-sunway-intro.html} webpage for details of Science areas of study and sequences available at the Malaysia campus.
Graduates from the Bachelor of Science will have skills necessary for employment in a range of scientific and non-scientific fields including; health and pharmaceutical science, banking and finance, environmental consulting, wine and food industries and research. Opportunities exist in organisations including state and local government, local and global research and development corporations, education and the health sector.

TAFE Diploma graduates
To be considered, applicants who have completed VCE or its equivalent and who are applying with:
a science-based diploma will require average results of at least 60% (70% to be considered for BA/BSc and BSc/BCompSc, and 80% to be considered for BScAdv(Hons))
a non-science-based diploma will require average results of at least 70% (80% to be considered for BA/BSc and BSc/BCompSc).
Applicants who have not completed VCE but have completed:
a science-based diploma will require average results of at least 70% (80% to be considered for BA/BSc and BSc/BCompSc)
a non-science-based diploma will require average results of at least 80%.
TAFE Certificate graduates
Science-based certificate-level studies will be considered where the applicant has average results of 80% or above. For applicants who have also completed VCE, both qualifications will be considered. No credit is granted for these studies.
University
Two single units satisfy minimum entry requirements, but more units may be useful for selection, especially in science areas. Applicants for the single degree programs, except BScAdv(Hons), should have at least a 60% average in their studies. Applicants for science double degree programs should have at least a 70% average in their studies.
Those without Year 12 prerequisites for particular courses need to complete units that correspond to these prerequisites (eg Mathematics Methods for Science/Computer Science).
These studies need to have been completed no more than five years prior to admission.
Units 3 and 4-one of biology, chemistry, mathematical methods (either), physics, geography, psychology or specialist mathematics, and a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
English at a minimum of grade four at standard level and one of psychology, geography, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics (SL or HL) or mathematical studies.
Minimum entrance requirements for admission to Monash University Australia.
