FacilitiesThe Peninsula Residences are self-contained with most facilities available for students who are ready to enjoy the independent lifestyle that comes with tertiary life.
Bedrooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe, drawers, heater, desk and chair. Each bedroom has a data point for connection to the University's computer network. Students can access the University's intranet via this point, or the internet. Email correspondence with friends and family is therefore available 24 hours a day. Students can lock their rooms when not in attendance. Common areas have lounge chairs, heater, kitchen furniture, conventional oven, microwave oven, fridge, washing machine and clothes dryer. Residents are expected to supply their own cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, food, pillow and linen. It is expected that students maintain the residences in a clean and tidy state at all times. Common areas are cleaned once a week by contract cleaners. Bedrooms however are the responsibility of the residents to ensure privacy and security. Monash Residential Services engage maintenance and gardening personnel to ensure that the buildings and grounds are kept in good condition. Cooking FacilitiesThe residences are designed for self catering. A conventional oven, microwave oven and fridge are supplied, but residents need to supply everything else.
MONSU runs an on-campus cafeteria and dining room during the day on weekdays, and reasonably priced meals are available there. Shops are located close by to purchase food, and fast food outlets are another possible option. Residents need to show consideration for other residents in sharing the available facilities by organising cooking rosters, but should also take the opportunity where possible to enjoy the benefits of sharing cooking tasks together. Kitchens and other shared facilities are cleaned weekly, however the washing of dishes, cleaning of cooking spills and clearing of benches are the responsibility of residents.
