Roberts Hall
Roberts Hall, named after Tom Roberts (1856-1931), the father of Australian landscape painting, was opened in June 1971. The hall is built around two courtyard areas and is composed of seven 6-level stairway units and one 2 level corridor/stairway unit. Each level usually has four student rooms as well as access to bathroom, utility room and refrigerator. The stairway system has developed small, effective units for socialisation through academic and extra-curricular activities, coordinated by the Resident Advisor and the elected stairway representative. The hall common room area is a focus for its residents and has daily newspapers, stereo, pool tables and table tennis. The shop, games lounge, TV/video room, gym, entertainment centre with giant screen TV/video and music room are in close proximity to the common room area and the computer centre is nearby. Excellent self-catering facilities are available as well as outside barbecues and picnic tables. There are undercover facilities for bicycles. Roberts Hall has an international atmosphere with residents from around twenty-four countries. This has led to shared multicultural experiences in an environment, which is focused not only on academic study but also on personal and social development.
