Visa: Students who are Australian or EU citizens, and citizens from some other countries, do not need a visa to enter the Netherlands.
However, if you are planning to remain in the Netherlands for more than 3 months, you must report to a police station and apply for a residence permit within 3 days of arriving. Your host university will assist you with this and further information can be found on the Netherlands Immigration website.
Students from all other countries must apply for a visa at the Netherlands Embassy in Canberra. This can be a lengthy process so lodge your application as early as possible. A Schengen visa is not sufficient. You must not under any circumstances travel to the Netherlands without a visa. For further information check the website of the Netherlands Embassy.
