Visa: Australian and EU citizens and citizens from the following countries do not need a visa to enter Germany:
Australia, Canada, Honduras, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Liechtenstein, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the United States.
However, after entering Germany, you will have to apply for a residence permit at the local "Auslaenderbehörde" (Immigration Office) if you are staying for more than three months. Your host university will assist you with this.
Students from all other countries must apply for a visa for study purposes at the German Consulate-General in Melbourne. This can be a lengthy process so lodge your application as early as possible. You must not under any circumstances travel to Germany on a tourist visa. For further information on requirements for entering Germany, check the website of the German Consulate-General in Melbourne. |
| DAAD Scholarships: The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers generous scholarships for Australian students going on exchange to German universities. These are for German major students and details can be found in the financial information section of this website under Other Scholarships and Grants. |
