Study at an international Monash campus (Australia, Malaysia and South Africa)

With campuses in Australia, Malaysia and South Africa, Monash makes it really easy to spend one or two semesters overseas as part of your Monash degree.  This is the Monash intercampus exchange program.

  • Monash students at any of the six Victorian campuses can spend a semester in Malaysia or South Africa.
  • Monash students in Malaysia or South Africa can go to any Victorian campus.
  • Monash Malaysia students can go to Monash South Africa and vice versa.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the intercampus exchange program you must have:

  • completed at least 48 credit points of your course at Monash (except for Engineering and Law)
    • Engineering students must complete 48 credit points if they are doing chemical, electrical, computer systems, mechanical or mechatronics engineering or 96 credit points for all other courses - this applies to intercampus exchanges to Monash Malaysia only and exchanges to all other destinations require 96 credit points
    • Law students must complete 72 credit points
    • Law students doing a double degree must complete 72 credit points in total of which 48 credit points must be Law units

  • selected units that will ensure you are doing a full time load of on-campus units (18 or 24 credit points)
  • been assessed by a process of consultation with Monash Abroad and Faculty staff as a suitable representative of your home campus.

Other factors which are taken into account include:

  • Some faculties may not permit you to undertake overseas study in the final semester of your course - check with your faculty exchange adviser before applying
  • Monash students at the campuses in Malaysia and South Africa can participate in exchanges to third countries (eg to Sweden or the USA ) provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Monash part time and distance education students can participate in the exchange progam but must study full time on campus while overseas.

The Monash Abroad office selects students to go on the intercampus exchange program.
