How do you apply for an exchange to South Africa?

Studying in South Africa will be one of the greatest experiences of your time at Monash, but it's still a big decision to make. Monash Abroad and your faculty exchange advisers are able to help you through the application process.

1. Decide you want to apply

2. Get an approved study plan

3. Submit your application

  • Obtain two references to support your application from tutors or lecturers
  • Do your financial plan (which is part of the application form)
  • Lodge your application with Monash Abroad by the deadline for the semester you want to go

4. Assessment, interview and approval

  • Your application is assessed by Monash Abroad
  • Approval is not just about your academic progress but ensuring you will cope with studying and living overseas – so we arrange an interview

5. Pack the bags!

  • Make sure you have a valid passport (plus one year beyond what you need)
  • The (small) cost of living in South Africa

Never in a million years would I have imagined I would one day come to such a country. My time in South Africa was definitely one of the best times of my life. I experienced some amazing and eye-opening moments, I've also met some of the nicest and friendliest people. One semester was not enough in my opinion.
