Monash Abroad travel grants

Most students who are accepted on a short term International Study Program receive a Monash Abroad travel grant

All Monash abroad travel grants and other financial support are subject to change. Grants set in previous semesters and years should only be used as a guide to future Monash Abroad grants. As part of your application process we encourage you to stay in regular communication with your Coordinator and regularly check the Monash abroad website. This information is correct at the time of publication.

Most students receive travel grants ranging from $450 - $1,700 depending on the length of the program and the amount of study undertaken overseas - see the table below. Students from Monash Malaysia receive no travel grant for short term study programs in Australia but the nominated grant for all other destinations.

Exceptions

A small number of students who go on international study programs are not eligible for Monash Abroad travel grants, usually because they are receiving other financial assistance.   The exceptions include:

• Students who receive other significant financial assistance for their overseas study from Monash University or external organisations. These will be assessed on a case by case basis.
• Students who are citizens of the country to which they are going.  (They may be allowed to participate by the faculty running the program but will not receive a Monash Abroad travel grant.)
• Students who do two consecutive overseas programs will receive one travel grant at the higher applicable rate eg a student who does a two week study tour in Europe followed by a six week program at Prato will receive a grant of $750.

Students who receive OS-HELP loans or Centrelink payments are still eligible for the normal Monash Abroad travel grant.

Payment of grants

Once your grant is approved we will pay it into your Australian bank account, usually about 4 weeks before your overseas program commences. If you are studying at the Malaysia or South Africa campus, Monash Abroad or your home campus will arrange payment into your local bank account.
