The Japanese Government provides a variety of scholarships for international exchange students accepted by Japanese universities. Some are administered by the Japanese Student Services Organisation (JASSO) and others by the Ministry of Education (MEXT). Students receive a monthly stipend of about $A900 per month as well as a relocation allowance of about $A1500.

Students must be selected by the Japanese Studies Program and nominated by Monash University to our exchange partners in Japan. Our partners decide which students are awarded scholarships.

The scholarships are granted each semester. All exchange applicants for Japanese partner universities who apply by the normal Monash Abroad closing dates of 1 December and 1 June each year will be considered.

Students who are awarded JASSO or MEXT scholarships are not eligible for a Monash Abroad travel grant.
