Endeavour grants

University Mobility in the Asia Pacific (UMAP) grants

UMAP grants are provided by the Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR). Students do not receive the Monash Abroad travel grant as well.

How much: $5,500
For: Monash exchange partner universities in selected countries in the Asia Pacific region (includes Asia, the USA, Canada and Latin America) - undergraduate students only
Applications: All you have to do is apply to go to one of these universities on exchange. No separate application is necessary.

UMAP grant universities

For students who apply to study overseas in 2010 we will have UMAP grants available for exchanges to the following universities:

Preference will be given to students applying to go to:

  • Carleton University
  • University of Waterloo

If any grants remain, students applying for the other exchange partners in Canada will be considered:

  • Queen's University
  • Simon Fraser University
  • York University
India
  • National Institute of Design

Mexico

  • Tec de Monterrey

Singapore

  • Nanyang Technological University
  • National University of Singapore
Turkey
  • Middle East Technical University

USA

Preference will be given to students applying to go to:

  • Clarkson University
  • University of Missouri-Columbia
  • Virginia Tech

If any grants remain, students applying for the other exchange partners in the USA will be considered.


Eligibility

To be eligible for a UMAP grant you must be:

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • enrolled in an undergraduate course at Monash
  • selected by Monash to go on exchange to one of the specified partner universities in the Asia Pacific
  • studying full-time at this university for at least one semester
  • not also receiving a Monash Global or Japanese Government scholarship or other significant financial support from Monash University
 

How to apply

All you have to do is apply to go to one of these universities on exchange. No separate UMAP application is necessary because we automatically consider for a UMAP grant all students accepted for these exchanges. If there are not enough grants to go around, UMAP grants are awarded on the basis of academic merit.

UMAP grants are normally awarded as soon as all exchange students have received offers from the UMAP partner universities. All students who applied for these exchanges will be notified of the outcome.

Students going on exchange are eligible to receive only one UMAP grant, whether they go for 1 or 2 semesters.

Cheung Kong grants

Cheung Kong grants are provided jointly by DEEWR and the Cheung Kong group of companies, based in Hong Kong and with significant investments in Australia. Grant funds are provided each year to Monash for exchange students going to partner universities in specified countries in the Asian Pacific region and coming to Monash from those same universities. Students do not receive the Monash Abroad travel grant as well.

Cheung Kong grant universities

For students who apply to study overseas in 2010 we will have Cheung Kong grants available for exchanges to and from the following universities:

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Cheung Kong grant you must be:

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a citizen of the country in which the Monash Cheung Kong partners are located
  • enrolled in an undergraduate course at Monash or your home university
  • selected by Monash to go on exchange to a partner university in one of the specified countries in the Asia Pacific or accepted by Monash as an exchange student from one of the partner universities in the specified countries in the Asia Pacific
  • studying full-time at this university for at least one semester
  • not also receiving a Monash Global or Japanese Government scholarship or other significant financial support from Monash University or your home university
