How to apply to study at an international Monash campus
This page is for students applying to do a full semester on intercampus exchange. If you want to apply for the Summer School at Sunway, click here and scroll down to Summer School Applications.
Please note that Sunway students who want to go to an Australian campus can only apply for one semester.
Step by step guide
- Which campus? Decide which Monash campus you would like to go to.
- Which units? Use the relevant Monash University Handbook or the campus website to check which units you can take towards your Monash degree. You may be able to get some advice from your faculty exchange adviser (Australia students), student services staff (Malaysia and South Africa students) or your lecturers.
- How many units? Make sure you select enough units for a full time load, which is 24 credit points per semester for undergraduates at all campuses.
- Choose your units: Write your chosen units on the study plan on the Monash Abroad intercampus exchange application form (see below).
- Unit approval? Take your study plan to your faculty exchange adviser (Australia students) or student services staff (Malaysia and South African students) who will tell you how to get it approved by your faculty or school.
- Application submission: Complete the rest of the Monash Abroad intercampus exchange application form (pdf 10 pages) and submit it to the Monash Abroad office (Australia students) or student services office (Malaysia and South Africa students).
-
IELTS test - Depending on your country of origin, Australian Immigration may require you to sit an IELTS test even though you have been studying at Monash University in an English teaching environment. Unfortunately this is a visa requirement and not a Monash requirement and we are unable to overrule this condition. Please check the Australian immigration website right away and if necessary, book in for an IELTS test early, as they do not run on a regular basis.
You will need to submit:
- Monash Abroad Intercampus Exchange Application Form (pdf 10 pages)
- One copy of a recent bank statement showing full account details, including account holder's name, account number and BSB number.
- Passport size photographs (see application form for number needed)
[Students applying for Sunway campus need to submit six standard size, colour passport photos. These photos need to be 3.5 x 5cm - head size 2.5 x 3cm.]
- Students applying to go to Monash Sunway campus need to provide a photocopy of their complete passport including blank pages - please note one spread per page and not double sided. Students applying for Monash South Africa or Monash Australia campus need to provide a photocopy of the information page of their passport.

Hints
- Although the process is similar to an exchange application, it is much easier because you are simply continuing your Monash course at a different campus.
- Start your research early -- it takes most students at least 2 months to get their applications ready to submit to Monash Abroad.
- It can take up to 6 weeks to get your study plan approved by your faculty -- check the normal approval time with your faculty exchange adviser, as you cannot lodge your application with Monash Abroad until your faculty has approved it.
- MBBS students do not need to complete a study plan or provide academic references but must have their applications signed by their faculty and lodge them by the Monash Abroad deadline, unless they are given an earlier deadline by the faculty.
- After you have lodged your application with Monash Abroad you will normally receive an offer of admission within 6 weeks.
- It is possible to transfer to the other Monash campus to complete your degree at the end of your intercampus exchange but you may be charged any difference in fees for the period of your intercampus exchange.
