Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories

Monash Immunology and Stem Cell Laboratories (MISCL) brings together Monash’s world-renowned research interests in stem cell science, with a strong emphasis on embryonic stem cell research and the potential applications in the repair and regeneration of blood, pancreatic, respiratory and renal diseases.  The stem cell interests include both adult (mature) and embryonic stem cells, particularly in lung and kidney tissues.  There is also a major interest in the immune system and the potential induction of immune tolerance for transplantation using stem cells for chimeric population of the haematopoietic and thymic systems.  Other interests include mammalian germ stem cells, gametes and preimplantation embryo development.

The researchers in MISCL have international reputations in immunology, stem cells and tissue repair, and are closely linked to the Australian Stem Cell Centre and other Monash interests in development, genomic and epigenetic science, reproduction, immunology and transplantation medicine, broadly in the areas of regenerative medicine. Honours and postgraduate research students work closely with research fellows and senior scientists in five major initiatives: immunology, haematopoiesis, renal and respiratory medicine, and germ cells and embryology.
