Centre for Green Chemistry

The Centre for Green Chemistry (CGC) is a Special Research Centre funded by the Australian Research Council, utilising custom-built research laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities.

CGC’s mission is to become a world leader for research, industrial collaboration and teaching in the field of green chemistry, and to harness this expertise to enhance the international competitiveness of Australian industry.  Research is being undertaken in cleaner synthesis technology and green biotechnology, including development of ionic liquids as green solvents in chemical synthesis, and other chemical products, and green corrosion inhibitors for water treatment systems.  CGC offers world-leading technologies directed to the areas of reaction media (high-temperature water, solvent-free conditions, ionic liquids and “distillable” ionic media), electroseparations, protein and biopolymer isolation and analysis, synthesis of functional surfaces, solid phase synthesis, separation science and microwave chemistry.

As part of the Centre's global initiative, CGC aims to provide a fundamental scientific base for future advances in the chemical and molecular science fields, identifying niche areas in Australia and globally, with multinational partners.  For further information, visit our website: www.chem.monash.edu.au/GreenChem
