Mathematics and statistics can help us predict weather and climate patterns, find new geothermal energy sources, anticipate the effects of solar flares, and even discover new planets.

Modelling a system, such as a traffic network, gene regulatory network or a hospital emergency department, using mathematics can identify and improve the performance of the system by allowing us to evaluate the impact of different scenarios.
Pure mathematics deals with the abstract, the rigour and the beauty of perfection. While pure mathematical constructions are motivated by reasons other than application, they often become the basis for applied mathematics to solve the most concrete problems.
Mathematics provides us with a universal language with which to describe, model, and understand phenomena in our world. Our breadth of interest and expertise includes the application of mathematics to understand phenomena in our physical environment, and of our own making. This enables us to play a critical role in interdisciplinary partnerships through collaborations with other disciplines and industry.
We’re growing! We’ve recruited 15 outstanding mathematical scientists in the last few years, and there’s more to come. If you’re interested in joining us, check out our current vacancies for academic positions
