Small and General Grants and Travel & Conference Grants - Ian Potter Foundation
The Ian Potter Foundation makes grants for general charitable purposes in Australia that advance knowledge and benefit the community in the areas of the arts, community wellbeing, education, environment and conservation, health, medical research and science. The Ian Potter Foundation has stipulated that, research funds awarded to Universities and Research Institutions will only be directed towards major new developments. The Foundation does not support expenditure on projects or items of equipment that might be funded internally or by a Government agency such as the NHMRC or the ARC. Small GrantsSmall Grants apply to applications that are requesting less then $20,000 in funding for the areas of Arts, Community Wellbeing, Education, Environment and Conservation, Health & Disability, Medical Research and Science. General GrantsGeneral Grants apply to applications that are requesting $20,000 or more in funding for the areas of Arts, Education, Health & Disability, Medical Research and Science. If your grant application is for $50,000 or more, the primary contact for the project must speak to the relevant Program Manager at the Foundation prior to submitting the application. A site visit and/or meeting may be required, so you are encouraged to submit your application as early as possible. If there is insufficient time to arrange a site visit prior to the funding decisions being made your application may have to be deferred to the following funding round. There is a separate form to be used for grants between $20,000 and $50,000 in the Community Wellbeing Program area. There is a two stage process in the Community Wellbeing Program Area for grants over $50,000 and in the Environment and Conservation Program area for grants over $100,000. Stage 1 is submission of an Expression of Interest; Stage 2 is an invited application. Prior to submitting your Expression of Interest [EoI] you should telephone the relevant Program Manager at the Foundation to discuss your proposal. All applicants are encouraged to submit their applications earlier rather than wait until the closing date.
NOTE: All research applications must be supported by a covering letter, from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) or delegate, indicating support for the proposal and that it is an initiative of substantial importance to Monash University as a whole. Applicants should supply a draft letter with their application to the Monash Research Office as this would assist the DVC (Research) or delegate in providing the Institutional letter of support required by the Foundation. Researchers are encounraged to contact the Monash Research Office prior to the closing date to discuss their applications. Applications will be ranked by the University prior to submission to the Foundation. Applications that have not been recieved by the Monash Research Office due date will be ranked last, regardless of the quality of the applications to ensure all applications can be submitted to the Foundation on time.
Applications must be submitted through the Monash Research Office. Applications sent directly to the Foundation will not be considered. Applications sent by fax or email will not be accepted. Applications for developments other than research will need to come directly from the Vice-Chancellor. Exclusions: The Foundation carefully considers all eligible applications to determine whether a project fits its current program interests and funding considerations. Unfortunately many more applications are received than can be supported, with approximately one in four applications resulting in a grant. The Ian Potter Foundation has found that there are a few recurring issues with the acquittal of Travel grants. Here is some guidance to help avoid/reduce any unnecessary to-ing and fro-ing at the conclusion of the grant period.
