Overview

The Project Grants Scheme is the NHMRC’s main avenue of support for individuals and small teams of researchers undertaking biomedical, public health and health services research in Australian universities, medical schools, hospitals and other research institutions.

Consent to be a Chief Investigator (see 4.5, page 5 of the funding rules)

The Chief Investigator A must seek agreement from other CIs' (B-J) to be named on the application.

The CIA will provide written evidence (e.g. an email) to the RAO of all CIs' endorsement of the application. the RAO will then certify and submit the application in RGMS (Research Grants Management System). The RAO will not be authorised to submit the application to NHMRC until all Chief Investigators have completed this step.

Australian Citizenship/Permanent Residency Status (see 4.4.2, page 4 of the funding rules)

Generally, the Chief Investigator A must be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency in Australia at the time of application submission. It is also required that the research proposal involves Chief Investigator A being based in Australia for the duration of the grant. The CEO of NHMRC may waive the eligibility requirement at his or her absolute discretion where it can be demonstrated that the research is based in Australia and will benefit health and medical research in Australia.

Any application to waive this requirement needs to be made through the Monash Research Office and emailed to nhmrc@monash.edu by 20 January 2012.

The types of Project Grants available:
