Bone Marrow Failure (BMFRP) Hypothesis Development Awards
The FY2009 Bone Marrow Failure Hypothesis Development Awards will support the initial exploration of innovative, untested, novel, and potentially groundbreaking concepts in bone marrow failure research. Results of studies conducted through this award may provide the scientific rational upon which a new hypothesis can be based, or it should provide initial principles of an innovative hypothesis. The award mechanism is not intended to support ongoing work. Scientific peer reviewers will be blinded to the identity of the PI and the PI’s institution. The presentation of preliminary data is not required. Clinical trials will not be supported under this award mechanism. Because these awards are designed for preliminary investigations, projects involving human subjects or specimens will not be supported unless they are exempt (see program details for more information)
Funding is available for a maximum period of performance is 18 months. Maximum allowable funding for the entire period of performance is $100,000. Indirect costs may be proposed in accordance with the institution’s negotiated rate agreement.

The FY2009 Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Therapeutic Development Awards encourage proposals that focus research on ALS, also known as Lou Gehrigs disease, specifically on the pre-clinical development of novel therapies to treat this disease. While a number of drugs are in clinical trials, no effective treatments exist now to combat the effects of this neurodegenerative disease. The research project must include the analysis of data from at least one NSF or NCES data set. Additional large-scale nationally representative data sets may be used in conjunction with the obligatory NSF or NCES data set. If international data sets are used, the study must include U.S. education.
Eligibility: Applicants for Research Grants may be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or non-U.S. citizens. Applicants must have received the doctoral degree by the start date of the grant. Please note that researchers who have previously received a major award through the AERA Grants Program (i.e., AERA Research Grant as a PI or Co-PI, AERA Postdoctoral Fellowship, or AERA Fellowship) may not apply for a Research Grant. However, applicants who have received an AERA Dissertation Grant are eligible to apply for a Research Grant. Dissertation Grant recipients must complete the Dissertation Grant before applying for a Research Grant. Underrepresented minority researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Each year the College offers a number of Visiting Fellowships to men and women who intend to engage in study and research in Oxford and are prepared to participate in the academic life of the College. Exploratory Grants for Behavioral Research in Cancer Control (R21)
Researchers are invited to submitt of applications in the areas of developmental and formative behavioral research in cancer prevention and control.
This FOA will support innovative pilot projects or feasibility studies, which will facilitate the growth of research science in the cancer control continuum from a behavioral perspective. This FOA encourages applications that include small cross-disciplinary teams of investigators who bring perspectives from the behavioral and social sciences, as well as other fields of public health. This program will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism.
Applications may be submitted to Grants.gov in response to this announcement on or after May 16, 2009. The deadlines for receipt of standard applications under this announcement are: 16 February, 16 June and 16 October annually. The deadlines for receipt of AIDS-related applications are: 7 January, 7 May, and 7 September annually. This program will expire on 8 May, 2012.

AERA invites education policy- and practice-related research proposals using NCES, NSF, and other (US) national data bases. Research Grants are available for faculty at institutions of higher education, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level researchers. Applications are encouraged from a variety of disciplines, such as but not limited to, education, sociology, economics, psychology, demography, statistics, and psychometrics.
Research topics may cover a wide range of policy- or practice-related issues that include but are not limited to: science and mathematics education; the supply (pipeline) of students taking mathematics and science courses; teachers and teaching, including supply, quality, and demand; policies and practices related to student achievement and assessment; policies and practices that influence student and parental attitudes; contextual factors (individual, curricular, and school related) in education; educational participation and persistence (kindergarten through career entry); at-risk students; early childhood education; postsecondary education; US education in an international context; school finance; the quality of educational institutions; and methodological studies. The research project must include the analysis of data from at least one NSF or NCES data set. Additional large-scale nationally representative data sets may be used in conjunction with the obligatory NSF or NCES data set. If international data sets are used, the study must include U.S. education.
Eligibility: Applicants for Research Grants may be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or non-U.S. citizens. Applicants must have received the doctoral degree by the start date of the grant. Please note that researchers who have previously received a major award through the AERA Grants Program (i.e., AERA Research Grant as a PI or Co-PI, AERA Postdoctoral Fellowship, or AERA Fellowship) may not apply for a Research Grant. However, applicants who have received an AERA Dissertation Grant are eligible to apply for a Research Grant. Dissertation Grant recipients must complete the Dissertation Grant before applying for a Research Grant. Underrepresented minority researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Participating institutes of the National Institutes of Health provide support to encourage exploratory and developmental research projects by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of these projects.
The NIH seeks to foster the introduction of novel scientific ideas, model systems, tools, agents, targets, and technologies that have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. Applications should be exploratory and novel. These studies should break new ground or extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
The applicant may request a project period of up to two years with a combined budget for direct costs of up US$275,000 for the two year period. Normally, no more than US$200,000 may be requested in any single year.
