Postdoctoral fellowship 2010

Postdoctoral fellowships are designed to attract qualified, promising scientists entering their professional career in the diabetes research field. The applicant is required to work with a sponsor who can provide a training environment conducive to beginning a career in type 1 diabetes-relevant research. At the time of activating the award, the applicant must have a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DMD, DVM), or the equivalent from an accredited institution and must not be simultaneously serving an internship or residency.

Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study - Fellowships 2010 - 2011 for Natural Scientists and Mathematicians

Radcliffe Institute fellowships are designed to support scholars, scientists, artists, and writers of exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishment who wish to pursue work in academic and professional fields and in the creative arts. In recognition of Radcliffe's historic contributions to the education of women and to the study of issues related to women, the Radcliffe Institute sustains a continuing commitment to the study of women, gender, and society. Applicants' projects need not focus on gender, however.

Stipends are funded up to US$70,000 for one year with additional funds for project expenses. Some support for relocation expenses is provided where relevant. Fellows receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other resources of Harvard University during the fellowship year, which extends from early September 2010 through June 30, 2011. Fellows are expected to be free of their regular commitments so they may devote themselves full time to the work outlined in their proposal.

Applications are now available for the 2010–2011 fellowship year. The deadline for individual applications in the creative arts, humanities, and social sciences is October 1, 2009. For applications in the natural sciences and mathematics, the deadline is November 15, 2009.

Breast Cancer Research Program - Era of Hope Scholar Awards - FY09

The Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis honors scientists and developers who make advancements in the field of laser technology. Since 2000, the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung has given the award every two years for excellent research and development work on the application or generation of laser light. Visiting Fellowships 2009

For scholars with PhDs obtained within the last five years, working in any branch of the humanities or social sciences.

The Academys Visiting Scholars scheme enables early-career scholars from overseas to apply directly to the Academy, in conjunction with their UK hosts, for research visits to the UK of two to six months. The main purpose of the visit should be to enable the visitor to pursue research.

Grants are provided to a maximum of £ 7,500 and are intended to cover travel and subsistence costs for the Visiting Scholar for the duration of their stay.

Systems Biology Collaborations (R01)

The sponsor invites applications from institutions/organizations that propose collaborative systems biology research projects by multi-disciplinary teams to advance our understanding of normal physiology and perturbations associated with heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) diseases and disorders.

Reprogramming for Beta Cell Replacement and Regeneration Therapies - LOI - 2009

JDRF is soliciting proposals that have the potential to support reprogramming of non-beta cells to functional beta cells either in vivo to restore beta cell function or in vitro for transplantation in type I diabetes.

AERA Grants Program 2010

AERA invites education policy- and practice-related research proposals using NCES, NSF, and other (US) national data bases. Research Grants are available for faculty at institutions of higher education, postdoctoral researchers, and other doctoral-level researchers. Applications are encouraged from a variety of disciplines, such as but not limited to, education, sociology, economics, psychology, demography, statistics, and psychometrics.

Research topics may cover a wide range of policy- or practice-related issues that include but are not limited to: science and mathematics education; the supply (pipeline) of students taking mathematics and science courses; teachers and teaching, including supply, quality, and demand; policies and practices related to student achievement and assessment; policies and practices that influence student and parental attitudes; contextual factors (individual, curricular, and school related) in education; educational participation and persistence (kindergarten through career entry); at-risk students; early childhood education; postsecondary education; US education in an international context; school finance; the quality of educational institutions; and methodological studies. The research project must include the analysis of data from at least one NSF or NCES data set. Additional large-scale nationally representative data sets may be used in conjunction with the obligatory NSF or NCES data set. If international data sets are used, the study must include U.S. education.

Eligibility: Applicants for Research Grants may be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or non-U.S. citizens. Applicants must have received the doctoral degree by the start date of the grant. Please note that researchers who have previously received a major award through the AERA Grants Program (i.e., AERA Research Grant as a PI or Co-PI, AERA Postdoctoral Fellowship, or AERA Fellowship) may not apply for a Research Grant. However, applicants who have received an AERA Dissertation Grant are eligible to apply for a Research Grant. Dissertation Grant recipients must complete the Dissertation Grant before applying for a Research Grant. Underrepresented minority researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Herman Goldstine Fellowship 2010

The Mathematical Sciences Department of the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center invites applications for its Herman Goldstine Fellowship for postdoctoral research in mathematical and computer sciences. This fellowship provides scientists of outstanding ability an opportunity to advance their scholarship as resident department members at the research center. The program is organized for research in pure and applied mathematics and in theoretical and exploratory computer science. Each candidate must have a doctorate and not more than five years of postdoctoral professional experience when the fellowship commences.

One fellowship will be awarded. Candidates must have received a Ph.D. degree after September 2005 or should expect to receive one before the fellowship commences in the second half of 2010 (usually in September). The fellowship has a period of one year, and may be extended another year by mutual agreement. The stipend is expected to be between US$95,000 and US$115,000, depending on the area and length of experience. An additional allowance for moving expenses will be provided.

Mentored New Investigator Research Grant to Promote Diversity 2010

The Mentored New Investigator Research Grant to Promote Diversity (MNIGD) is a three-year award intended to be a research-based and mentoring investment in the process of closing the health disparities gap between diverse and nondiverse investigator populations. The Alzheimers Association feels strongly that the mentoring and involvement of diverse researchers in independently funded Alzheimers research is a pressing need. The MNIRGD is intended to enhance the capacity of diverse and nondiverse scientists to conduct, basic, clinical and social and or behavioural research.

The Association anticipates funding 5 NIRGD/MNIRGD awards total under this competition. Each MNIRGD award is limited to $170,000. A total of $150,000 will be awarded for costs related to the proposed research for up to three years (direct and indirect costs). Requests in any give year may not exceed $60,000 (direct and indirect costs). The Principal Investigator must commit to a 50 percent effort toward the proposed project over the three year funding period. The remaing funds, $10,000 to the applicant and the primary mentor, will be awarded upon successful complestion of the three year program.

AAPS and Eli Lilly and Company are pleased to announce the Graduate Student Symposium to be held at the 2010 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, May 16-19, in San Francisco, California. The program is designed to recognize excellence in graduate education in the fields of pharmaceutical biotechnology. Students will be selected to participate in the symposium by the AAPS Selection Committee on the basis of abstracts submitted to the committee.

Innovation in Biotechnology Awards

The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists provides a dynamic international forum for the exchange of knowledge among scientists to enhance their contributions to health. AAPS and Genentech are pleased to announce the Innovation in Biotechnology Award to be presented at the 2010 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, May 16 -19, in San Francisco, California. The award is intended to recognize and promote the achievements of individuals that demonstrate innovation in the area of Biotechnology. The award is open to individuals who submit an abstract to the 2010 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference. Applicants do not need to be a member of AAPS.

Fellowship Program

The Hong Kong Baptist University is now inviting applications/nominations for University Fellowships. The aim of the program is to strengthen and enhance research and teaching within the Institution and foster research collaboration among local and overseas scholars. Fellows are expected to engage in research and other scholarly activities, jointly with colleagues members of the University if possible, and to conduct public lectures in their areas of specialisation.

Under the program, a maximum of six fellows will be invited to the University each year from Arts, Business/Economics, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Science and Social Sciences. Fellowships are for one semester and include: a stipend of HK$25,000, economy class airfares, short-term medical insurance, and university housing.

Tenure of the Fellowship is from three to five months within a semester (1st Semester: Sept to mid-January; 2nd Semester: mid-January to June).

Postdoctoral Fellowships for Basic Scientists and Postdoctoral Fellowships for Neurologists

The Postdoctoral Fellowships for Basic Scientists are one-year fellowships for young scientists, fresh from their Ph.D. training, to study at major research institutions. The applicant must have completed a Ph.D. or M.D. and must identify a research mentor who will serve as mentor for the fellow and supervisor of the research.

Postdoctoral Fellowships for Neurologists are for young clinicians who have completed their neurology residency and are seeking clinical research experience, PDF offers the Postdoctoral Fellowships for Neurologists, one-year awards in the amount of $55,000. Fellows may competitively reapply for continued funding after their first year for a total of three years of support. In these instances, a progress report of the current research would be due along with the new application. Eligibility & Restrictions - Applicants seeking a Postdoctoral Fellowship for Neurologists must have an M.D. and be completing or have completed a neurology residency. Applicants may not have their own lab.

International Research Grants Program 2010

The International Research Grants Program (IRGP) is designed to promote innovative research that has a high potential to significantly advance the knowledge of Parkinson’s disease (PD) but little likelihood of securing funding through more traditional sources. By supporting novel, “high risk/high reward” research, the goal of the IRGP is to enable investigators to demonstrate the feasibility of their ideas while generating preliminary data necessary for the support of future funding.

The IRGP is open to applicants both nationally and internationally and basic, translational and clinical research proposals are eligible for support. All applicants must possess a Ph.D. or a M.D. (or equivalent). Preference will be given to scientists who are at an early stage in their professional careers.

AAPS and Millipore are pleased to announce the Excellence in Ligand Binding Assays Award to be awarded at the 2009 AAPS National Biotechnology Conference, May 16-19, in San Francisco, California. This program is designed to recognize excellence in ligand binding assays within the pharmaceutical sciences. The award will promote the science and technology of ligand binding assays.

Selection will be made based on the submitted abstracts and summaries of those individuals judged by the committee to have provided the most outstanding contributions in ligand binding assays within the pharmaceutical sciences. Any abstract that is submitted to the BIOTEC Section for the National Biotechnology Conference and employs ligand binding assay technology will be given consideration for the award. The primary presenting author will be awarded $1,000 and a plaque.

John J. Wasmuth Postdoctoral Fellowships 2010 Round 1

The sponsor provides postdoctoral fellowships for research projects that will contribute to identifying and understanding the basic defect of Huntington's disease. Innovative Grants

JDRF provides seed funding for highly innovative research with potential significant impact on accelerating the mission of JDRF. The innovative research should have the potential for a change in the current paradigm or conventional wisdom or to lead to a seminal discovery or to be groundbreaking. Preliminary data is not required in the proposal but the underlying premise, goal, or hypothesis must be plausible and the proposal must be focused with a well defined goal.

NIDDK Multi-Center Clinical Study Implementation Planning Grants (U34) 2010

Visiting Senior Fellowship Program (CASVA) 2010-2011

Fellowships are for full-time research, and scholars are expected to reside in Washington and to participate in the activities of the Center throughout the fellowship period. Lectures, colloquia, and informal discussions complement the fellowship program. Visiting senior fellows are provided with studies. Those who relocate to Washington will be provided with housing in apartments near the Gallery, subject to availability.

Applications will be considered for research in the history, theory, and criticism of the visual arts (painting, sculpture, architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism, prints and drawings, film, photography, decorative arts, industrial design, and other arts) of any geographical area and of any period. Applications are also solicited from scholars in other disciplines whose work examines artifacts or has implications for the analysis, interpretation, and criticism of visual form.

Visiting senior fellowships are intended for those who have held the PhD for five years or more or who possess an equivalent record of professional accomplishment at the time of application. The Center awards up to 12 short-term (up to 60 days) Paul Mellon and Ailsa Mellon Bruce Visiting Senior Fellowships annually. Visiting senior fellows receive stipends that include round-trip travel and local expenses. Stipends for two-month fellowships range from $6,000 to $8,000, depending on relocation requirements. In addition, fellows receive allowances for photography.

Mentored Clinical Research Award

The Mentored Clinical Research Award (MCRA) for new investigators is funded by a grant from the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) to the Parkinson Study Group (PSG). The grant supports new investigators for a one-year project in patient oriented research in Parkinson’s disease or other parkinsonian disorders under the mentorship of an experienced investigator. The goal of the award is to provide funding for an investigator who has the potential to become an independent researcher. One award of $75,000 each will be available for this funding year.

Autism Applied Research Competition 2010

The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) seeks applied research proposals for its 2010 Autism Applied Research Competition. Through this competition, OAR intends to promote evidence based practices delivered from research in the following areas - The analysis, evaluation, or comparison of current models of assessment, intervention, or systems of service delivery including policy analysis; Applied aspects of educational, behavioural, or social and communicative intervention across the lifespan; Adult issues such as continuing education, employment, residential supports, sexuality instruction, quality-of-life determinants, and 'later intervention', and; Issues related to family support, social and community integration, assessment and intervention with challenging behaviour, and the use of technology in support of learners with ASD.

OAR seeks to fund studies of one to two years in length that will likely produce practical and clearly objective results that promise some direct benefit for learners with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), their families, and related service providers (e.g., teachers, classroom aides, job coaches, speech pathologists, psychologists, etc.) at different times in their lives.

In the 2010 competition OAR will consider awarding up to10 One-year studies funded at a maximum of US$30,000 per year and 2 Two-year studies funded at a maximum of $US30,000 per year (US$60,000 total award). The total funding available though the 2010 Applied Autism Research Competition is a maximum of US$420,000 for a total of 12 grant awards. Preproposals are due by 2 April 2010. OAR will invite full proposals from selected preproposals which will be due by 6 August 2010 and will complete the final review in October 2010 with successful applicants notified in November 2010.

Australia to USA Fellowships program - 2010

The American Australian Association awards individual Fellowships for advanced study in the United States of up to US$25,000 each year. The Fellowships build on existing strong social and economic partnerships and foster intellectual exchange between the United States and Australia. Postdoctoral Fellowships for Foreign Researchers 2009

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) carries out bilateral cooperative programs between Japan and counterpart countries based on agreements concluded with academies, research councils and other science-promotion organizations in those countries. The aim of these programs is to form sustained networks evolved from individual scientist exchanges including young scientists. JSPS provides financial support to Japanese scientists visiting counterpart countries to carry out research and/or discussions with scientists in those countries.

The fellowships purpose is to provide opportunities for young postdoctoral researchers from other countries to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions. The program allows such researchers to advance their own research while contributing to the progress of research in Japan and the counterpart countries. Applications for this program are submitted by a host researcher in Japan who wishes to host a foreign postdoctoral fellow.

All fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences are included under this program. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 12 to 24 months. Successful candidates must start the Fellowship in Japan during the following periods: April 1until September 30 2009, or September 1 until November 30, 2009. Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Award

Participating institutes of the National Institutes of Health provide support to encourage exploratory and developmental research projects by providing support for the early and conceptual stages of these projects.

The NIH seeks to foster the introduction of novel scientific ideas, model systems, tools, agents, targets, and technologies that have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. Applications should be exploratory and novel. These studies should break new ground or extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
