MRO to coordinate internal Expressions of Interest for Super Science Fellowships

The ARC has just released the Funding Rules for the Super Science Fellowships, and applications are due in Canberra on 25 November 2009.

While there are two rounds of Fellowships with one group to commence in 2010 and the other in 2011, applications for BOTH rounds will close on the above date.

These are not Fellowship applications in the usual ARC sense. Fellows are not named and their track record is not assessed as part of the proposal. Instead, up to five Chief Investigator's will put a proposal forward and universities will be required to advertise the positions once the fellowships are awarded, which is similar to the process for APAI scholarships.

Proposals MUST be in one of the following theme areas:

Due to the restrictions placed on the number of proposals that eligible organisations can submit Monash is taking a strategic approach to its response to the scheme.

To optimise our chances of success, the Monash Research Office has prepared an Expression of Interest (EoI) Proforma to enable us to review and rank the proposals and submit one proposal in each of the theme areas, in each round (a maximum of 6 proposals from Monash).

The MRO's closing date for ARC Super Science Fellowships Scheme Expressions of Interest has now passed. The ranking of Expressions of Interest for the theme "future industries research-biotechnology and nanotechnology" will be completed by Friday 6 November 2009 (today) and the selected lead Chief Investigators will then be invited to submit a full application for the ARC Super Science Fellowships scheme. Administrative support will be provided for these with their applications by MRO staff.

A recent presentation on the Super Science scheme by the ARC Executive Director for Physical, Information and Mathematical Sciences Professor Richard Coleman (beginning on page 12) can be found via the link in this article's Resources section (above, right).
