Next ARC Centre of Excellence round has a two-stage application process

The ARC have released the Funding Rules for its Centre of Excellence grant scheme and outlined a new two-stage application process.

ARC Centres of Excellence are prestigious hubs of expertise through which high-quality researchers team together on major research programs and facilitate collaborations between universities and other organisations in Australia and overseas.

The ARC is now calling for Expressions of Interest for funding of a Centre of Excellence.

EOI forms [link above, right] are due at the Monash Research Office on 11 November. The EOIs will then be ranked by the ARC and a shortlist will be invited to submit a full application, due in April next year. The ARC have indicated that full applications will be invited by February 2010.

If you are interested in developing a Centre of Excellence proposal, please complete an Indicative Funding Information Form (contact a MRO ARC Team member to obtain) and get your EOI into the MRO by 11 November.

Important information on CIs and selection criteria

  1. Chief Investigators and application limits

Please note that a CI may be nominated on a maximum of two EoIs or Proposals. It's also important to note that the ARC expects little, if any, change between the investigators put forward in the EoI and in the final Proposal. Any significant changes to the investigator teams will need to be explained and will not be viewed positively.

  2. Selection Criteria

Please note that there are different criteria for the two stages outlined below.

Expressions of Interest
Proposed Research Program - 50%
Investigators - 50%

Proposals
Research Program - 25%
Investigators - 25%
Governance, leadership and mentoring - 25%
Outcomes and linkages - 25%
