Record Requirements

Individual researchers are ultimately responsible for keeping records of their imported goods.  Records must be maintained for a minimum of 18 months after delivery of goods and must be available for inspection by quarantine officers upon request. 

Records (electronic or manual) for each consignment of quarantinable goods must include:

  • Quarantine Entry number
  • Import Permit number (if applicable)
  • description of materials (including the batch number)
  • date of arrival
  • country of origin
  • name of supplier
  • details of proposed research/analysis
  • details of any treatments
  • date of research/analysis completion
  • method of disposal of effluent and destruction of residues
  • date of effluent/residue disposal/destruction
  • details of any transfers of material

Copies of all Import Permits and any Transfer Approvals will also be maintained in the Research Compliance Office. Please send a copy of any current and new Import Permits to the Research Compliance Officer  to be kept in a Central Register.
