QAP Accredited Person Training

An important component of the new QAP Conditions of Approval is the requirement for QAP Accredited Persons. QAP Accredited Persons will be responsible for identifying items subject to quarantine at QAPs and managing these items appropriately. You are required to complete an on-line training course to become a QAP Accredited Person.

Please note that all staff / students working with quarantine material in a QAP, must complete this course immediately.

The training focuses on the role and importance of quarantine as well as some more specific training related to quarantine issues and QAP operations. The course consists of two units:

1.  Quarantine Awareness

  • History of quarantine
  • Quarantine legislation and penalties
  • Different pathways for people and things entering Australia
  • Methods of quarantine screening used by AQIS
  • Types of quarantine risk materials
  • Quarantine actions on imported goods
  • Groups with responsibilities for quarantine
  • Some key quarantine principles
  • Some important pests of quarantine concern and their impacts

2. Quarantine Approved Premises

  • Role of QAPs and QAP Accredited Persons
  • Requirements and directions that QAPs must comply with Categories of items that present quarantine risks
  • Effect of different types of processing on quarantine risks
  • Types of quarantine treatments for addressing quarantine risk
  • Key principles of QAP management

The total cost of the training is $66.00 per person for on-line enrolments using a credit card or $77.00 per person if payment is invoiced.

To enrol in the QAP Accredited Person training, follow the steps. Following successful completion of this course, you can print out certificates. These certificates, or copies of them, should be kept at the QAP.

A list of QAP Accredited Personnel will also be maintained in the Research Compliance Office. Please send the names of Accredited staff and copy of certificate / students to the Research Compliance Officer to be kept in a Central Register.
