The ARC (under its Linkage International Scheme) and the Economic and Social Research Council of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (ESRC) are collaborating to fund research in the field of Social Sciences involving researchers in both countries. Counterpart proposals must be submitted to each funding organisation by the relevant deadlines.

HOW TO APPLY: Step by step instructions

1. Obtain a copy of the key ARC information documents

2. Keep up to date with Research Office information and updates

3. Read the ARC rules and instructions

It is critical that you read through the Funding Rules, Call for Proposals and Instructions to Applicants to understand the application process and requirements..

4. Be aware of the ESRC requirements for the counterpart proposal

A counterpart proposal must be submitted by the UK-based OIs in accordance with ESRC requirements and by the ESRC deadline. Information concerning the ESRC requirements is available on the ESRC website. The Funding Guide also contains relevant information.

5. Getting started in GAMS

If you, or any of the proposed investigators, do not have a GAMS ID and password, complete the request for GAMS User Account:

7. Arrange for letters of support

For any CIs (other than those from Monash), OIs and PIs named on the proposal, a letter from their respective Organisations must be attached as part of the proposal. The letter should indicate the financial commitment (cash and/or in-kind) to the proposed project.

8. Validate and submit the form in GAMS

Complete the validation check of the application form. Once the form has been validated successfully, click on the 'Local submit' button and print a copy of the application.

9. Print remaining parts of the proposal

Print the additional text and supporting documentation and insert the pages into the correct place in the application form.

10. Complete the ARC Certification Proforma

Obtain original signatures and submit one copy of the certification to the Research Office with your draft application.

Note: You do NOT need to obtain a signature from the DVC(R). The Research Office will arrange for this.

11. Complete the Research Office coversheet

Complete the Monash Research Office Application Cover Sheet (rtf 109 kb). The form must be printed, signed by the relevant Head of School and Associate Dean (Research), and attached to your draft application.

12. Submit one full copy of the application to the Research Office by 21 May 2008

  2. Signed ARC Certification Proforma
  3. Completed and signed Research Office cover sheet

13. Final Submission

Following the review of your application, you will be asked to provide the Research Office with two single-sided copies and 2 double-sided copies of your final application. Please ensure the application is numbered and the total number of pages inserted where indicated on page one.

If you wish to request the exclusion of particular individuals as assessors of your Proposal you must complete and submit a Request Not to Assess form.
