ARC Discovery Indigenous funding commencing in 2013

The Discovery Indigenous scheme provides funding to Eligible Organisations to support research programs led by an Indigenous Australian researcher and build research capacity of higher degree research and early career researchers.

Discovery Indigenous for funding commencing in 2013 includes the new Discovery Indigenous Award (DIA), available to Chief Investigators who are Indigenous Australian Researchers.

The Discovery Indigenous Funding Rules for funding commencing in 2013 are now available.

The objectives of the Discovery Indigenous scheme are to:

  • develop the research expertise of Indigenous Australian researchers;
  • support fundamental research and research training by Indigenous Australian researchers as individuals and as teams;
  • support and retain established Indigenous Australian researchers in Australian higher education institutions; and
  • expand Australia’s knowledge base and research capability.

Required Monash Research Office (MRO) Documents
  • Monash Cover sheet - signed by the Head of Department and the Associate Dean Research
  • ARC Certification form - signed by all participants and their employer/HoD/HoS
  • Obtain ALL required signatures and submit one copy of the above documents to the MRO at the time you submit your draft application
  • NOTE: Signed copies of the ARC certification and the MRO Coversheet must be received by the MRO prior to submission of your proposal to the ARC.

Tips
Resources for Budget Calculations (Monash Only)
  • Strategic Statement template and guidance material (coming soon)
  • Applicants should prepare a draft Strategic Statement and submit it as a Word document (.doc/.docx) to the MRO (email to arc@monash.edu) for review.  The Office of the DVC(R) will provide support with the statements by reviewing drafts, addressing University level alignment and providing feedback. 
  • The MRO will organise for the DVC(R) to sign the statement, scan it and email it back to you to upload in RMS.
  • Applicants must seek input from their Head of Department / School and Associate Dean Research in preparing the first draft and should check with their Faculty office for Faculty requirements http://www.monash.edu.au/research/faculty-offices.html

    The Strategic Statement should outline how the Project fits with the Administering Organisation's strategic Research Plan or other strategic developments.

Other Resources

Submit the draft application in RMS
  • Review all components to ensure the information is complete
  • Work through each page of the RMS form and click 'save and continue' to update all fields - you must do this BEFORE you generate the PDF.
  • Caution: A green tick does not always mean a section is complete
  • Generate a PDF of the whole document.
  • Submit to the MRO by clicking on 'Submit Proposal to Research Office' no later than 22 March 2012.
  • Notify the MRO by email (please include Project ID in Subject Heading) that your application is ready for review. The MRO will review your draft application and provide feedback
IMPORTANT: Draft submission is now electronic only. There is no need to submit a hard copy of your draft to the Monash Research Office. Please note, however, that your faculty may have different requirements, so please check with your Faculty Administrating Officer.

Final Submission in RMS
  • Please address the issues you received from the MRO, save the application and submit the final version in RMS, by clicking the 'Submit to Research Proposal to Research Office' button. Please Note: Final submission is electronic ONLY
  • Notify the MRO by email (please include Project ID in Subject Heading) when you have submitted your FINAL application
  • The MRO will perform a brief final check of your proposal (for ommissions) and will submit the final application to the ARC on your behalf by the closing date
