Grant Funded? Need Animal Ethics Approval?

Many granting bodies (including NHMRC and ARC) specify that animal ethics approval must be obtained as a condition of the grant or contract.
The Monash Research Office requires grant recipients to supply documentation of animal ethics approvals relating to the grant-funded research projects for research management purposes.
All information provided is subject to routine verification, audit and quality assurance procedures that ensure compliance with conditions of the grant / contracts, and relevant regulations.
Note NHMRC and some other funding bodies will not release funding until ethics and compliance certification is supplied by the Monash Research Office.

* NHMRC Funded Research

Animal Ethics Approval must be continuous for the entire period of the grant or fellowship, apply to all the research funded by the grant, and include all investigators performing scientific procedures using animals.
The NHMRC Conditions of Award for Projects Grants states that "payment will not commence until there is evidence that all institutional approvals for that project are held by the administering institute. Unless exceptional circumstances apply, where evidence that relevant approvals have not been received by 30 June in the first year of the award, the funding for the grant will be forfeited." It is NHMRC policy that where these clearly stated conditions are not met and satisfactory explanations are not provided, the funding offers will be withdrawn and the grant forfeited.
