3Rs

Definition:

The Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (2004) states that investigators must consider the:

  • Replacement of animals with other methods
  • Reduction in the number of animals used; and
  • Refinement of techniques used to reduce the adverse impact on animals
