For Open to public Format Public lecture Overview The number of motor vehicles in the world is projected to reach two billion by 2030. While the car offers individuals many mobility benefits, our cities and the planet are struggling under the strain of accommodating the increasing number of vehicles. To create a more sustainable transport future we need to change the gas guzzling car monoculture that all too often defines our current urban transport systems. An integrated package of measures potentially holds the key to addressing these challenges. This lecture examines how our transport monoculture can evolve through using technology to improve fuel economy, replacing the internal combustion engine and providing enhanced personal mobility options.
