Education
Academic staff at the Centre for Science and Wealth Creation were involved in teaching or supervision of students in three postgraduate programs:
Master of Business (Science & Technology)
The Master of Business (Science and Technology) was specifically tailored for science or technology graduates who were interested in a career involving the commercialisation of scientific research outcomes.
This course built on students’ existing knowledge, exposing them to the pathways available to translate scientific, medical and technical research into economic wealth. Students gained fundamental business, economics, legal and management skills required to contribute to this process.
Graduate Certificate in Commercialising Research
Monash University offered a four-unit graduate certificate in commercialising research, aimed at students who were concurrently pursuing a higher degree by research. The goal of the course was to allow students to develop or enhance their skills and knowledge with respect to commercialising research, whether done by themselves or by others. The Commonwealth Government-funded Commercialising Training Scheme offered scholarships that cover all course tuition fees for eligible awardees.
The course consisted of four units of six points each. The Centre teaches one of these units, “Research Commercialisation Planning” (GSB9100). This unit covers the business planning process required to bring research ideas to market. Topics include feasibility studies, market research, intellectual property protection, risk management, strategic direction, and strategic and functional planning.
Doctor of Philosophy
Graduation of PhD Student
Supervision of higher degree research students was an important part of the Centre’s overall research mission. PhD students supervised by Centre academic staff are formally enrolled through the Faculty of Business and Economics.
To enquire about supervision, prospective students should contact directly the member(s) of academic staff whose research interests are most closely aligned with the project that they wish to undertake. The research interests of academic staff affiliated with the Centre can be found in their biographies on this website. In general, the Centre undertook research into innovation, commercialisation, scientific entrepreneurship, intellectual property, and related areas.
