  • Emmanuel Churchley’s PwC Placement
I previously completed Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) that focussed on Exercise Science. During this degree I worked at Victorian Institute of Sport, Hawthorn Football Club and had my research published. After completing this degree, I was looking for a way to incorporate my science knowledge with business skills, which lead me to undertaking the Master of Business (Commercialising Science & Technology).

Through the experiences and knowledge gained during this year, I have been offered a position at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Performance Improvement - Health division. This position will involve working with members from within this division and from other divisions, in order to address the needs of clients in the Health industry.

    Did you know?

Private, arm's length investors (often called "business angels") provide most of the start up capital for early stage businesses.

The Ocean Tomo 300® Patent Index (OT300) is the first index based on the value of intellectual property, and represents a diversified portfolio of 300 companies that own the most valuable patents relative to their book value. At the end of November 2008 the broad US stock market index (S&P500) was below its level of 10 years earlier while the OT300 was about 40% higher. (See http://www.oceantomo.com/index_ot300.html). The superior performance continues to date (March 18) in 2009

As of Friday 28 November 2008, the AFR Share Tables (http://www.afr.com/home/tables.aspx? ) list 80 companies in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry Group and the 40 smallest of these each had a market value of less than A$10 million. The total value of all 40 companies is only $170 million. The Intersuisse Biotechnology Index (http://www.intersuisse.com.au/standard.asp?pg=33 ) declined 43% between 1st November 2007 and the 14th November 2008. Is it a time for bargain hunting or will we see spring cleaning in the Australian biotech sector?
