Sustainable Campus GroupThe Sustainable Campus Group (SCG) aims to progress sustainability in the Tertiary and Vocational Education sector by engaging tertiary institutions to monitor and report on their sustainability performance, and by driving cultural change across campuses. The SCG provides a forum for the tertiary sector to:
Funded by Sustainability Victoria, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Skills Victoria and the Environment Protection Agency Victoria, the SCG is a joint initiative of Monash University and AECOM. SCG WorkbookSCG members are provided with a comprehensive environmental database system (the SCG Workbook), which covers current government environmental reporting requirements for universities and TAFEs, as well as other environmental impacts relevant to the sector. SCG TrainingSCG training is offered to members each year, with a focus on improving institutional environmental performance. Topics covered include:
Training has been completed for 2009. SCG BulletinThe SCG also publishes two e-bulletins each year, showcasing examples of best practice from within the sector, and highlighting external programs available to support tertiary institutions with sustainability improvements. SCG Sector Environmental ReportThirteen TAFEs and universities participated in Stage One of the SCG in 2006/07, which established a state-wide annual Sector Environment Report - the first report to benchmark environmental performance in the tertiary and vocational education sector in Australia. Stage Two of the SCG was launched on 4 December, 2008 with presentations on climate change and carbon trading from climate change scientist, Professor Dave Griggs, and Michael Nolan of AECOM. The SCG hosts an annual forum to launch the Sector Environmental Report. The forum features guest speakers on sustainability related topics and provides opportunities to network and share experiences. 2008 SCG Sector Environmental ReportThe 2008 Sector Report was launched on Wednesday 9 September, 2009 by Professor John Thwaites, Chair of ClimateWorks Australia, and former Deputy Premier of Victoria, with guest speaker Deb Daly, Chair of TAFE Directors Australia. The event was attended by almost 100 representatives of the tertiary and vocational education sector, government and other stakeholders, and provided a forum to discuss the sustainability challenges facing the sector, and to network.
