Work Placement - Information for Host Organisations

Take the next step to improve your organisation’s environmental performance:

Host a Green Steps intern

Green Steps internships:

  • Strengthen the sustainability initiatives within your organisation.
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Provide opportunities for savings and greater efficiencies.
  • Set your organisation apart.
  • Prepare you for new legislation and markets associated with national and international carbon reduction schemes.
  • Provide fresh expertise, energy and creativity.

Green Steps is the leading Australian sustainability training and leadership program for university students.

As part of the program, students are placed on short-term internships within organisations to work on various sustainability projects. Common projects include (but are not limited to):

  • Establishing environmental baseline or eco-footprint data
  • Developing energy efficiency, carbon reduction or waste minimisation action plans.
  • Implementing staff behaviour change programs.

Internships run for a minimum of 12 days, with duration negotiable. Green Steps interns are supervised and mentored by experienced organisational sustainability practitioners from the Monash Sustainability Institute.

In 2009, Green Steps courses will run in most capital cities and internships are available to organisations of all sizes operating in Australia

There are costs associated with hosting a Green Steps placement, with different rates available for business, government and not for profits organisations.
