Biography

Ainsley works in the Office of the PVC & President Gippsland at Monash University as a Lecturer.

Ainsley James has been a registered nurse since 1993 after graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing from Monash University Gippsland Campus. Ainsley has a background in general nursing and has an interest in orthopaedic and paediatric nursing. Being able to practice in two specialty areas was possible when Latrobe Regional Hospital, a new major regional referral hospital was built in Gippsland in 1998. A unit was designed to include both orthopaedics and paediatrics.

 

In 2001 Ainsley completed a Certificate in Paediatric Nursing with an elective in Adolescent Health and took up a position as Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatrics at Latrobe Regional Hospital. She also completed a Certificate in Adolescent Counselling in 2001. In 2003 Ainsley became an Accredited Immunisation Nurse and provided regular immunisation programs across the lifespan in the Gippsland region until 2006.

 

During 2005 Ainsley became a clinical teacher for undergraduate nursing students undertaking clinical placement at Latrobe Regional Hospital. In 2006 she accepted an undergraduate teaching position in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Monash University Gippsland where she teaches predominately into the second year of the UG program. Ainsley is the Clinical Coordinator for undergraduate nursing and midwifery students on the Gippsland Campus and also helps coordinate international clinical exchanges in collaboration with Universities in the UK and Sweden.

 

Ainsley has completed a Master of Nursing Degree by researching the experiences of second year nursing students who had undertaken their first acute clinical experience. Ainsley recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education with Monash University.

 

Ainsley’s recent publications include student clinical experiences, interviewing people you know, mandatory professional education, graduate capabilities, clinical placement evaluation and has co-authored a chapter in an Australian/New Zealand Health Assessment text. Her other research interests include clinical placement models, simulation and adolescent health. Ainsley is also a PhD student and is currently researching young people's lived experiences of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in rural Victoria (Gippsland) using a phenomenological approach.
