My current position is Senior Lecturer in Italian Studies at Monash University. I was Academic Director of the Prato Monash University Centre from 2005 to 2008 and was involved in the Centre’s establishment as a member of its first working party. I continue my association with the Prato Centre as a member of its Advisory Group. I also coordinate and teach the Italian Studies Programme in Prato during January and February. Prior to joining Monash University in 1991 I taught at La Trobe University and the University of Melbourne. I completed a Master of Arts and PhD at the University of Melbourne. My research interest and supervision are in 19th and early 20th century Italian literature, literary theory, gender studies and Italian theatre. I have published widely on the development of the 19th century novel, Italian Verismo to Modernism. I am a member of the editorial board for the Melbourne-based journal Spunti e Ricerche and edited several volumes and I am an external member of journal the Annali della Fondazione Verga.
