Biography

Claudia Terstappen moved to Australia in late 2004 after having lived in Germany, Britain, the US and Spain. She has exhibited internationally and nationally since the 1980’s.

Some of her solo exhibitions include Museum DKM, Duisburg, Germany (2011/2012), Galeria Palma XII, Barcelona (2011,2009, 2006, 2004), Conny Dietzschold Gallery, Sydney (2010, 2009, 2007), Centre Cultural Contemporani de Barcelona (2006), Metrònom, Fundació Rafael Tous, Barcelona (2005) and Galerie Fleur, Kyoto, Japan (2004). Selected group exhibitions include Tarra Warra Museum, Australia (2010), Museum DKM, Duisburg, Germany (2009), Museum of Natural History, Berlin (2008), Musée des Confluences, Lyon, France (2007), Contemporary Art Center, New Orleans, US and the Louvre, Paris (2005).

She has been awarded several major scholarships and prizes, including the Bronze Prize at the Triennale for Sculpture in Osaka, Japan, and the Ida Gerhardi Prize and the award for open-air sculpture for the Landesgartenschau Hamm, both in Germany. Scholarships include the Research Leave Award from the Arts and Humanities Research Board, London and the DAAD scholarship and Kunstfond Bonn in Germany.

Claudia Terstappen’s work is represented in the Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Texas USA; the Osaka Prefectual Government, and Collection of Seika University, Kyoto both in Japan; Museum DKM, Collection Grothe, Collection Heiting, Collection Schneckenburger, Kunstverein Hasselbach E.V., Art Bank, Cologne and the Max-Planck-Institute, Berlin in Germany; the Fundación Coca Cola, Colección Rafael Tous de Arte Contemporáneo, Colección Spectrum Sotos and Museum La Coruña in Spain.

This year a new monograph will be published, spanning twenty five years of her work and reflecting her survey exhibition at Museum DKM, Duisburg Germany.
