Marilyn Pittard is Professor of Law in the Faculty of Law at Monash University, with responsibility for labour and employment law in both the undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes. She has recently completed a term as Associate Dean (Postgraduate Studies) in the Faculty of Law in 2009, and also for a the period 2003 to 2006. She was Associate Dean (Research) for two periods, 1997 t0 2000 and 2007 to 2009. Professor Pittard has also served as Director of the Honours Programme Acting Dean and Acting Associat Dean in the Faculty.
Professor Pittard has published several books and publishes extensively in labour law and industrial relations journals. She has co-authored several editions of Austrlian Labour Law: Cases and Materials, published by Butterworths and LexisNexis, and the book, Industrial Relations in Australia: Development, Law and Operation (Longman, 1995). She and Philippa Weeks published the book Pittard and Weeks (eds) Public Sector Employment Law in the Twenty-First Century, arising from an ARC large Grant.
Professor Pittard has current editorial responsibilities for journals in the field: The Australian Journal of Labour Law (founding member of the editorial board and section editor for many years), and the Employment Law Bulletin (formerly the Human Resources Law Bulletin) (editor). for many years she was section editor for the Australian Business Law Review and she was Faculty adviser to the Monash University Law Review for an extended period.
Admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor, Professor Pittard frequently addresses lawyers and industrial relations practitioners at seminars and training programmes. She gave the Dean's Lecture in 2009. She is an elected member of the Committee of the Australian Labour Law Association, and is co-convenor of the Victorian chapter of the Australian Labour Law Association. She has served on Executive Committee of the Industrial Relations Society of Victoria. She is a legal member of the Cancer Council Research Ethics Committee.
