Kay Dreyfus came to Monash University on a research fellowship for women with career interruptions and was then awarded a 5-year ARC research fellowship. In her subsequent fifteen years as a research officer in the School of Music-Conservatorium, she has facilitated editorially some two hundred publications by the School’s staff, research associates and postgraduate students, as well as by external local and overseas scholars. These have included books, book chapters, refereed journal and encyclopedia articles, conference papers and compact discs. Since 2000, she has commissioned and guest-edited themed issues of twelve major Australian and overseas journals. Her research interests lie in Australian music history of the early twentieth century, and she has published on a range of topics including the Musicians’ Union, and women and immigrant musicians. In 1988 she was awarded the International Percy Grainger Medal for her contribution to Grainger scholarship. She is presently researching the professional reception of post-war immigrant musicians and is currently employed as a Research Associate on the History of Adoption project (SOPHIS).
