Carolyn Sutherland is a senior lecturer in the Department of Business Law and Taxation.
Prior to joining Monash University in 2004, Carolyn gained extensive experience in private practice, specialising in the areas of employment law and equal opportunity law over a period of 10 years.
Carolyn’s research focuses on the influence of the law on workplace agreements. As part of this work, she has produced two commissioned research reports for the Victorian Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development: Agreement-making under Work Choices: The Impact of the Legal Framework on Bargaining Practices and Outcomes (September 2007) and Best Practice in Workplace Agreements (July 2008). In 2008, Carolyn was awarded a Faculty Research Excellence Grant in recognition of high quality publications.
Carolyn lectures in the postgraduate units Law of Employment and Human Resource Management Law. She is the deputy director of the Workplace and Corporate Law Research Group and is also the department's coordinator of sessional staff.
Her research and supervision interests include enterprise bargaining, legal complexity, the impact of legislation on workplace relations outcomes and equal employment opportunity.
