Duangporn Jamsai is a Research Fellow at the Department Anatomy & Developmental Biology, Monash University, where she has established her own group within the research team of Prof. Moira O’Bryan. Her research focuses on the genetics of male germ cell development and uses mouse models/clinical samples to reveal critical pathways in male fertility.
Duangporn completed her Ph.D. in the field of thalassemia in December 2003 at Mahidol University (Thailand). She was awarded a highly competitive Royal Golden Jubilee Ph.D. scholarship from the Thailand Research Fund, which allowed her to conduct some parts of her Ph.D. research at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI, Melbourne) from 1999-2001. During this period, she was also awarded the Thalassemia Society of Victoria research grant. After two and a half years of productive research at the MCRI, she returned to Mahidol University to complete her Ph.D.
In January 2004, she migrated permanently to Australia and joined the “Male Germ Cell Biology & Male Infertility” group at the Monash Institute of Reproduction & Development under the supervision of Prof. Moira O’Bryan. Conceptually, this is a radical shift in research discipline and research environment. Despite this, her outstanding achievement as an early career scientist was recognised by the award of an NHMRC Peter Doherty Postdoctoral Fellowship (2006-2010), which has been particularly productive. These include the development of unique research tools e.g. mouse models and a male infertility repository. These resources have given Duangporn a significant internationally competitive edge in the area of male fertility.
