Biography

Dr Rebekah Henry is a microbiologist who works in the Department of Civil Engineering, investigating microbial pathogens within the Yarra River Estuary.

As a microbiologist Rebekah has always been interested in how bacterial pathogens interact with their environment; whether that is the human host or exogenous environs such as urban waterways, soils and sediments. Rebekah graduated from Monash University with a PhD in molecular microbiology in 2010 after investigating the waterborne bacterial pathogen Leptospira. Before her current position, Rebekah worked as a research fellow in the Department of Microbiology (Monash University) investigating multidrug resistance in the hospital-acquired pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii. Both her PhD and post-doctoral research has focused on understanding how these microbes interact and adapt to different environments. Rebekah now works in the Department of Civil Engineering at Monash University as a Research Fellow.
